THIS MONDAY – Online Pathways Workshop

Are you new to Toastmasters? Would you like to hear about Toastmasters Pathways? Do you have questions you want to ask before selecting a pathway? If so, this workshop is for you.

Peter Simmonds will be leading the workshop. We will also have a round of Table Topics to help us all improve our impromptu speaking skills.

A masters student and longstanding Toastmaster, I know our club can make a difference in the lives of everyday students, be it in interviews, presentations and even relationships. During our workshop I will explore with you how to figure out your ‘why’ and other ways to get the most out of Toastmasters.

THIS MONDAY 7pm: Our invited speakers for the Women in STEM evening

Come along to hear some amazing women talk about their experiences studying/working in Science, Technology and Engineering. Event will be held in Rehua room 529. Guests can also join us online via Zoom.

Nidhi Tewari, PhD Candidate, University of Canterbury. She has expertise in a diverse range of areas, including social sciences, law, and information systems. She is interested in research around convergence of law and technology, and in the development of laws of policies. Her current research is focused on information privacy concerns which emerge in the context of digital profiling.

U-CAN-SPEAK Toastmasters, Vice President-Membership, Kate Wislang. Kate is a PhD student in electrical engineering at Canterbury. Her current research focuses on producing nano-thin films for environmental applications. Kate will be sharing her thoughts on her experiences of studying in the male dominated areas of physics and engineering.

A hybrid event designed to recognize International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Come along if you would like to listen to our speakers, share and/or meet new people. The event is free. Does your New Year resolution include getting better at public-speaking? Would you like to be part of a club that offers a supportive environment for you to learn and improve? Then Toastmasters might be the place for you!

We start back our meetings on the 10th of January (Monday) from 7:00-8:30pm (Room: Rehua 529).

Want to know more about our workshop and club? Read on.

How will I benefit? Through a combination of practice, receiving constructive feedback, our club environment, and other factors, you potentially will decrease your nerves and increase your self-awareness and confidence.

What will happen at the workshop? Turn up, sign our guest book, and take a seat. When your turn comes, give your presentation. Later, you will receive a personalised oral evaluation as well as a written evaluation.

What will the evaluation include? Usually, 1 recommendation sandwiched between 2 commendations. Feedback is meant to be constructive, encouraging, and uplifting.

What else happens? Depending on the speaker numbers, we might have an impromptu speaking session that you are welcome to join in if you choose.

What type of place is a Toastmasters? Our club provides a supportive, positive meetings where you can work towards your potential, whatever your life goals are.

What will it cost? The workshop is free.

Do I need to book my slot? Yes. We will host a maximum of 5 speakers.
