Sunshine and smiles at Dovedale

It was fantastic to meet so many students at the Dovedale Clubs’ Day. Improving academic presentations, being persuasive, working on oral fluency in English, taking up leadership opportunities, acting as chair, becoming a better conversationalist, developing discussion and public relations skills: these are the objectives that our visitors have set for themselves. U-CAN-SPEAK delivers this.

This was the theme of the Toastmasters New Zealand Spring Convention this weekend. Ingenious speakers, high quality educationals and 300 Toastmasters from all of New Zealand – this is what makes district conventions always an invaluable experience.

Making the Most of Academic Conferences

We had an interesting and engaging meeting with our theme “Conference Workshop for Postgrads”. All events of the evening were themed around roles during a conference. A conference is a meeting of several people to discuss a particular topic. Of particular interest for our guests (postgrad students) would be an academic conference – gathering of scientists or academics where research findings or a workshop is conducted.

Timm inspired us to speak with ‘strangers’ at conference events and not just stay with your fellow academics.

Uni Life

We had yet another wonderful Toastmaster session tonight. Though the whole episode was fantastic, ironically nobody used the word of the day ‘episode’ even once. The highlights of the evening were the speeches by Akshay, Kayne, and Andy and of course the table topics session conducted by Vaughan.
