U-CAN-SPEAK Toastmasters Launch [LIVE] Video Streaming with Laughter Yoga

U-CAN-SPEAK [LIVE] Video Conferencing links the antipodes: our guest Erik joined our Toastmasters meeting in Christchurch from as far away as Stuttgart, Germany. Not enough, we also met on a Tuesday night due to the public holiday on Monday, we tried out a conference table layout, and we enjoyed very engaging Table Topics.

The All New Mentoring Programme [P2P] at U-CAN-SPEAK

Mentoring 2.0 – another U-CAN-SPEAK innovation. The aim is to combine the idea of personal advice and mutual coaching among club members on the one hand with the inherent dynamics of a student club on the other hand. Rather than having fixed mentor-mentee pairs, we now experiment with discussion groups once a month, typically during the first meeting of any month. In those small groups, members of different levels of experience have the opportunity to exchange ideas on a given topic.

What a powerful start into the new year! Who would have expected 16 members and a guest – Nathan – to come along this Monday night?!

In a warm-up activity everyone clarified their relationship to user manuals, instructions and directions. In a test, members were asked to follow a number of mostly silly directions. Not everyone spotted the very first instruction to first read the test in full before attempting anything like “draw triangles” or “call out your name”. At the very end, the test actually instructed people do ignore all of these silly directions.
