Meeting Summary: 28 November 2016

Today’s meeting was a very full and entertaining experience. There were three formal speeches and a long session of table topics. Everyone was able to participate in some way.
Greg led the meeting as Toastmaster while Grammarian Nicholas laid out a challenge to use the word of the day, clatterfart, and Tian (Timer) made it clear that he would strictly enforce the applicable time limits for speeches and roles.
The first speaker of the night was Daniel, who gave a technical talk on continuum fluids. Pradip, the second speaker, made a proposal for a one-day motivational seminar to inspire youths in Nepal who are struggling with unemployment and crime. Finally, Jenny discussed causes and effects of smog in China, and strategies to reduce it.
After this, Henry led a very entertaining session of table topics which he came up with on the fly after agreeing at the last moment to fill in for someone who was absent from the meeting. Highlights of the session included Justin’s choice of the one food he would like to eat for the rest of his life – pizza. Tian chose President Obama as person he would like to invite over for Christmas. And Jamie very humourously described how he would like to be the dictator of a poor country.

Thesis in Three, Beards and Childhood Memories

After a chaotic start to tonight’s meeting, re-organising the schedule, we were treated to 3 wonderful speeches.

The first of which was delivered by one of our newest members Amir. Who, on his first official meeting as a Toastmaster, broke the ice with his Thesis in Three.

Kris then convinced us on the importance of beards with philosophical arguments and indisputable facts on the matter.

We then reminisced about our childhoods as Shay shared his experiences on holiday and demonstrated how our perspectives change as we grow.

Then we moved on to Table Topics which were hosted by Julius. And turned the Toastmasters stage into a speed dating arena with his topics. Great Table Topics were presented by members, new and old.

Finally we moved onto evaluations which were headed up by Dan. As usual these were thorough and constructive; giving speakers and listeners something to ponder.
