We had yet another wonderful Toastmaster session tonight. Though the whole episode was fantastic, ironically nobody used the word of the day ‘episode’ even once. The highlights of the evening were the speeches by Akshay, Kayne, and Andy and of course the table topics session conducted by Vaughan.
Akshay and Kayne had a good practice run for their final project presentation at the uni by presenting their project ‘bus service reliability in Christchurch’ in the club tonight. Towards the end of their presentation, during the question and answer session, the club atmosphere turned to a real seminar presentation by the technical questions thrown at them by Daniel and Joanna. Andy’s way of comparing the working of internet with the making of a drug in his speech was very funny and interesting. The way he got the audience involved during his talk was commendable.
Many interesting facts came out during the discussion of the theme of the event ‘uni life’. It was interesting to note the best time for the Ph.D. students at uni is when their supervisors are away (Vivek). According to Henry the biggest problem faced by a student during the uni life is to find the balance between ‘partying’ and ‘studying’; most of the students end up doing one of it more than the other!
Henry’s fictitious story of meeting a brunette and a blond together and inviting both of them (greedy boy!) for a date in his impromptu speech in the table topics session was received with great applause. Though Joanna thought that she could not be a good student protestor, at the end of her impromptu talk she was surprised to know that given a chance she could make a good protestor.
Overall the session was well enjoyed. Hope to see you all for the pizza evening!!
