Our Sister Club at Imperial College London

That’s one of the greatest benefits of being a member of an international organisation like Toastmasters: you travel somewhere and you don’t know anyone at all, but you can immediately meet people who even have the same interests like you, communication and public speaking in this case.

Imperial College Speakers are a great Toastmasters club, with young, international and very talented members.

Their greatest challenge is that the student union does not allow external members to join the club. We at U-CAN-SPEAK are lucky enough to have a solid core of postgrads and people from the wider community attending even during exam times and term breaks. At the meeting of Imperial College Speakers that I joined this Thursday, we were a cosy group of five Toastmasters. Thanks to  the great enthusiasm of all members who challenged themselves with double roles, we nevertheless had a full programme with two speeches and Table Topics for everyone. “What currency should Greece introduce if they were to leave the Euro zone?”, “What space exploration project should we invest money in?” or “Is it fair that the student union gives a lot more money to sports clubs than to Imperial College Speakers?” were just some of the questions the Table Topics Master came up with.

No visit to the UK would be complete without experiencing the British pub culture. Even better when you can socialise with the locals you just met at Toastmasters!
