an impromptu Toastmasters speech at U-CAN-SPEAK Christchurch

Entertainment. Cultures. Improvisation.

New visitors, new members, new meeting roles: with a short presentation under the theme “day in history”, Sam took us back to 17th century America and illustrated how an initial massacre triggered a spiral of violence between Englishmen and native Americans, with the latter group being progressively marginalised.

Our three speakers challenged themselves with  projects from the Entertaining Speaker and Speciality Speeches manuals. Eventually we found out that tonight’s Table Topics Master Daniel is no great friend of platitudes. To his regret, most impromptu speakers seemed to agree with his examples ranging from “don’t work harder, work smarter” to “what goes up must come down”.  See you again for our Area Contests! May the best contestants win 😉
