Food Forests, Making Money and Movies

We had a number of highlights this evening.

Timm gave the 3rd Speech from the Competent Communication Manual, entitled – Three Steps to turn boring backyard beds into flourishing food forests! What a mouthful! For our stomachs, easy on the wallets and a great way of getting fit and giving back to the community. Timm, gave us three tips on how to utilise our backyard to make the best use of the traditional kiwi vege patch. In addition Timm mentioned clubs and initiatives for community based gardens.

Greg gave the 2nd speech from Speaking to Inform Manual, entitled – How to Make Money Publishing for the Amazon Kindle. Greg told us it is not theoretically possible to make a living doing that, he is living proof! Greg highlighted what Kindle is and how to find a target market and then write your book for that market. In addition, he detailed how royalties work and how to maximise your income using the Amazon Tools.

Daniel Thompson was the Table Topics master for the evening. He invited up 5 speakers to talk on movie inspired questions. Cherry was challenged to put herself into a Disney movie place, she chose sleeping beauty, that way she had free reign of the place as everyone was asleep! Paul had to choose one super power, he chose flying on the condition that he did not get cold flying at such a high altitude. Amir was challenged to be either a dog or cat, he changed the topic around to be a sheep or maybe even a cow. Timm had to choose an era to live in, he chose the 1920s, the flapper age along with the Great Gadsby, more importantly the same time Toastmasters was started. Finally Advait had to choose a pirate name, interestingly enough, Long Legged Advait.

Finally we had a special guest, our Area Governor, Basil. He gave us the benefit of his experience at Toastmasters and encouragement for all our members.
